For the next week or so, Kitty Boy is getting pork. I boiled it with two eggs in about 3/4 of a cup of water and I coulda kicked myself after I started this as I was unpacking my groceries and used two eggs from the fridge. Well, a shopping bag mishap led to three or four broken eggs! I dumped one more in this pot and scrambled up the rest to use for breakfast tomorrow. I saved the shells for the dog.
This is it all cooked up. I added ground up B vitamins and tossed in some Chia seeds -- which will add fiber and help gel this some more. Since I boiled it, there was water for extra kitty hydration. I also added a healthy teaspoon of ground eggshell for calcium. I then dumped in two cans of food and the remains of one in the fridge. I have enough food based on two cans plus the pound of pork to go well over a week. KB really likes his "enhanced" meals and is finishing everything we feed him.
He spends a lot of time in a deep state of slumber. But when he is awake he is either looking for food or love. If it turns out his seizures are from brain tumors, a protein emphasized with minimal grains approach to food will keep the cancer from having much fuel for food. Cancer thrives on carbs, so he gets very little as a precaution.
Our Vitamix came yesterday and I just could not resist it and it ended up getting used after all. I spent a little extra on groceries because I picked up an extra three pound bag of apples and more nuts. I have determined that bulk nuts are cheaper at Wegmans than at Guercios -- by a buck a pound. I also spent a little more this week because I bought my seeds in greater quantities (which is cheaper in the long run). I am adding Chia, Flax and Sesame seeds to our meals and breads.
We did a freezer purge and cleaned out the bottom section of the refrigerator in the house and culled the storage freezer in the garage. We don't need to buy meat or veggies for weeks. I will still buy some fresh after this week for salad and smoothies. However, for meals we are set.

hoping the seizures aren't being caused by cancer.
ReplyDeleteWas curious about the egg shells. I found it interesting you feed them to the dogs for extra calcium. Do you crush them really fine?
I just started raising chickens this last fall and have since learned that I can do the same for them...if ground really fine. They eat it up!
I had a head of cabbage that was not going to be used very soon--so today, I hung it from a string in the chicken coop for them to eat and hopefully give them a little entertainment.
We'll see how well they take to it.
take care...

Pat, I think it is great you gave your chickens entertainment. And I am serious about that. Animals need to have fun just like people do. I gave Teddy (the dog) a small watermelon outside a couple of times this summer. Consolation for her being tied up while I went to a neighbors campsite for a party!
DeleteI use the food process if I have a lot of shells, or the coffee grinder if there are just a few. These are great to sprinkle on the ground around tomato plants too.
