The Price is Rite

I wrote about seeds a couple posts ago and said I got mine from Save-a-Lot but that was wrong. I got them from Price-Rite. I just can't keep the two stores straight.  I have been experimenting with these alternative grocery sources for the past few weeks to see if I could make them work. I also have done a minor amount of Aldi shopping but don't think I'll do much of that.

Price Rite does have good prices on produce and you'd think there wouldn't me much to choose from.  But I'm now relying on them for my two weekly bags of spinach.  At $1.69 for 12 ounces, it beats $4.99 a pound for bulk baby spinach at Weggies.  And each time I go in, I am grabbing a bag of flax and sesame seeds.

Aldi is basically a non-starter for me since they don't take the type of charge card I use.  I don't like to pay in cash.  I'd rather pay one bill when it comes in than have my monthly checking balance fluctuate.  Using a charge card means no interest and one payment, no overdrafts or questions about my bank balance. It means we can pay every bill the day it comes in because our monthly balance is building.  We have a substantial amount of reward points which will be put towards a flat screen television when we get to the new house.

I am dropping about 30 bucks a pop at PR. Tomorrow I'm going to the green grocer for my cheese and cold cuts. I'm bringing the PR receipt to compare which store is cheaper.  Since PR is near my office, I can go there at lunch.  Guercios is always a special trip on Saturday.  I made the trip into Aldi to by a few Lacura items for a care package to bring to a friend in the hospital. I was bummed they didn't have lip balm!

When we move, we'll have to make new shopping choices.  I figured I'd explore Price Rite and then check more into Save-a-Lot to see if they can work for us.  As long as we can get affordable fresh food, we are happy.  But I think it would be swell to be able to shop in attractively merchandised stores with rows of attractively displayed high end items.  Alas, not in my budget!
