Frozen and Fresh!

Most people think they have to use either frozen, fresh or canned fruits and veggies.  But I think you can combine them with fine results.  I am not a fan of frozen strawberries.  But I don't mind frozen blueberries.  The blueberries are almost always cheaper frozen.

I hadn't gotten strawberries in some time but they are $2.99 at Weggies, and I just felt like some fresh fruit.  I sliced them up and added frozen blueberries.  This will be fine for cereal.  TBG likes to make oatmeal with fruit and I know he will like this.

I also mixed frozen and fresh for the pup.  We didn't have a lot of veggie odds and ends around and I was running low on her slop.  I had the ends of the strawberries and the tips of green beans.  I grabbed two bags of frozen veggies (green beans and broccoli) and ground it all up.  Turns out I've got pears which seem to be rotting from the middle out, so they went into it as well.  I'm set for a couple of weeks and each bag only cost .99 cents.

Since frozen veggies are picked and processed fresh, I think you can often mix them well with fresh.  It's a great way to stretch out your food dollars.

  2. Do you mix the dog slop with anything to feed it? I cant imagine the dog eating just that stuff. I do have to be careful cuz mine has a sensitive tummy so I do give her chow and then add a bit of things from our table now and then. But when I come here I see you put all sorts of things in that slop. I wouldnt think a dog could have the broccoli.....too much gas. So how can I know what to make that from?
